Nothing can keep us far too long away from the appeal of the rainforest. We took a slow and relaxed four hours drive over the weekend away from the hustle and bustle of KL city life to the ever peaceful destination of Kuala Tahan, Taman Negara in Pahang.

The Faculty bi-annual event came again full cycle. It is againt time for the reseach trip for fresh batch of postgraduate students from the Faculty of Art and Design for their eductional visit to Taman Negara in Pahang. It was a long three days two nights excursion into mother nature.

The Sungkai Wildlife Reserve is located about 60km south of Ipoh and 15km from Sungkai village. From Kuala Lumpur, exit at the Sungkai toll gate, turn right at the junction and take the main road leading to the Shell petrol station, where a signboard on the right points to direction where the Wildlife Conservation Center is.

Situated midway between the junction to Sungai Gabai Waterfall and the Sungai Chongkak, is the junction to the Sungai Perdik Forest Reserve in Hulu Langat. Another interesting and challenging trail up to the beautiful waterfall picnic site in the mountain.

The weekend trip was initially intended to be another nature trip but the weather wasn't too favourable that morning. Instead, we ended up at the Tasik Titiwangsa, the recreational park situated right in the middle of the city of Kuala Lumpur. After the Pekeliling roundabout, a left turning along Jalan Tun Razak will take you to the park.

The forest is located to the North of Kuala Lumpur. From Jalan Ipoh, take a right into Jalan Sungai Tua. Follow the signages towards Hulu Yam. It is actually a catchment area for water supply for the City of Kuala Lumpur, and it is easily reachable by car.

About 45 minutes drive from KL towards Kajang town, a left turn after the Tol Plaza will lead you to the direction of Hulu Langat. Be on an extreme lookout for very insignificant signboard on the right, that points to the Sungai Gabai Waterfall site.

About 45 minutes drive from KL through the the old Tanjung Malim-Rawang main trunk road is the small town idealic town of Kalumpang.
One has to be extremely observant about it, or just by a blink of your eye you might have just missed it (we do!!)

 The City of Shah Alam is the new capital for the state of Selangor and
is only half an hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. One could also take the
LRT (Light-rapid transit train) to Shah Alam as an alternative.
