Despite a very hectic weekend, and just to ensure that we maintain with our usual weekend routine, we decide on a quick dash to the nearby Bukit Gasing again to squeeze up some sweats and to pump up these tired muscles away.
This mission marks the begining of an official two years research undertaking at Taman Negara by the team from the Faculty of Art and Design, UiTM in Shah Alam after the signing of MOU between the University and the Department of Wildlife and National Park
Nothing can keep us far too long away from the appeal of the rainforest. We took a slow and relaxed four hours drive over the weekend away from the hustle and bustle of KL city life to the ever peaceful destination of Kuala Tahan, Taman Negara in Pahang.
Again, on a boring Sunday morning, this lone hardcore Nature Tracker decided to safely venture into nature documenting as usual, but this time, a short distance drive to the National Zoo.
Another quick escape into nature this week ends up in the nearby Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam Agro-Park in Shah Alam. Despite repeated visits, still there are many subject matter to study and document.
Just recently, many of the researchers involved in this project from the University, including yours truly, were present at the launchng ceremony of the "Taman Negara Research Project and Research Seminar" at the Rainforest Resort, in Kuala Tahan
There is no need to go far in order to admire the beauty of nature's creation. A quick drive on a Sunday morning to the Shah Alam Lake has a lot to reveal, if you do care enough to spend quality time searching for it.
The Faculty bi-annual event came again full cycle. It is againt time for the reseach trip for fresh batch of postgraduate students from the Faculty of Art and Design for their eductional visit to Taman Negara in Pahang. It was a long three days two nights excursion into mother nature.
A second follow-up research trip to the Wildlife Conservation Centre at the Sungkai Wildlife Reserve of Perak was done by a group of seven enthusiastic Naturetracker team.
The weekend trekking was ruined by the rain, so on Sunday morning we just decided to just do another revisit to the Bukit Gasing Nature Park in Petaling Jaya Old Town.
The Sungkai Wildlife Reserve is located about 60km south of Ipoh and 15km from Sungkai village. From Kuala Lumpur, exit at the Sungkai toll gate, turn right at the junction and take the main road leading to the Shell petrol station, where a signboard on the right points to direction where the Wildlife Conservation Center is.
Another revisit trip this week to the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), the centre for tropical forestry research located 16 km northwest of Kuala Lumpur in the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve.
A convoy of six cars, filled with the University's top managements, administrators, Faculty Deans and academicians, headed to the Taman Negara in Pahang for a specific mission with the people of the Department of Wildlife & National Parks at Taman Negara, Sg. Relau, near Merapoh.
Situated midway between the junction to Sungai Gabai Waterfall and the Sungai Chongkak, is the junction to the Sungai Perdik Forest Reserve in Hulu Langat. Another interesting and challenging trail up to the beautiful waterfall picnic site in the mountain.
Situated about 6km away from the Rawang Highway town towards Kuala Lumpur, or about 23 km from Kuala Lumpur is the Komonwel Recretional Forest.
The journey this weekend ended up at the Lentang Nature Park at kilometer 48 (about 45 min distance) along the East Coast bound Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway near Bentong, Pahang.
The weekend trip was initially intended to be another nature trip but the weather wasn't too favourable that morning. Instead, we ended up at the Tasik Titiwangsa, the recreational park situated right in the middle of the city of Kuala Lumpur. After the Pekeliling roundabout, a left turning along Jalan Tun Razak will take you to the park.
The call for a re-visit to Fraser Hill has been in our mind for quite a while since our last trip there. And all it takes is a simple whisper into the ears of the driver that morning to make that simple decision to drive up the hill again.
The forest is located to the North of Kuala Lumpur. From Jalan Ipoh, take a right into Jalan Sungai Tua. Follow the signages towards Hulu Yam. It is actually a catchment area for water supply for the City of Kuala Lumpur, and it is easily reachable by car.
Again in the Hulu Langat, there is another interesting nature park popularly visited by visitors, it is the very beautiful Sungai Chongkak Nature Recreational Park.
The many tracking visits to Taman Negara has so far only managed to reveal to me indications of tracks and evidence of tiger and elephant poos (scats) and their fresh footprints, buy never the real thing, not even a glimpse of its tail nor its whiskers
About 45 minutes drive from KL towards Kajang town, a left turn after the Tol Plaza will lead you to the direction of Hulu Langat. Be on an extreme lookout for very insignificant signboard on the right, that points to the Sungai Gabai Waterfall site.
About 45 minutes drive from KL through the the old Tanjung Malim-Rawang main trunk road is the small town idealic town of Kalumpang.
Despite the flooding season, it still does not stop these crazy trackers from visiting the Taman Negara Nature Park again this weekend. The rain did very little to keep us indoor for long.
The City of Shah Alam is the new capital for the state of Selangor and
is only half an hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. One could also take the
LRT (Light-rapid transit train) to Shah Alam as an alternative.
