 The hunger pangs of the day fasting during the Ramadan month do not deter this hardcore nature tracker from missing his weekly dosage of the nature's jab. A short drive to the KL Bird Park and its nearby Butterfly Farm near the Lake Garden in Kuala Lumpur is a good enough substitute.

 Circumstances beyond control prevents us from exploring new territory this week. However that "nature bug" in us insisted that even for a short spell we still have to step in and smell the freshness of forest. So we just decided to go again for another revisit to the Bukit Gasing Nature Park in Petaling Jaya Old Town.

 The semester research trip programme to Taman Negara came into full cycle again this weekend. A total of 21 postgraduate students plus 5 academic staff from the Faculty of Art and Design, UiTM, participated. We were greeted by heavy rain on our first day of arrival at Kuala Tahan base, after a long 3 hours of journey by boat from the Kuala Tembeling Jetty, near Jerantut.

 Right smack in the center of the cosmopolitan city of Kuala Lumpur is a
patch of green lung of montane forest reserves untouched by progress.
This location in Kepong was able to sustain its present state because
it is under the care of the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM),
the centre for tropical forestry research. The 600-ha site in Kepong
located 16 km northwest of Kuala Lumpur, is surrounded by the Bukit
Lagong Forest Reserve.

Town was considered incomplete because I did not trek the full course
(begining from the entrance at Trail 1, 2 to Trail 4 and back) hence missed see a lot of things along the way.

 The location is a privately operated Motivational Camp site called Desa Selesa that was situated several kilometers off road from the route to UPSI (Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris) near Tanjung Malim, in the state of Perak. It was purposely chosen because it has all the facilities and amenities, with chalets, canteen, etc. to cater for a big crowd of participants.

Again for the fifth time, the Nature Tracker team visited the exotic Taman Negara, at Kuala Tahan, in the state of Pahang. We left Kuala Lumpur at 8.30 am and we reached Kuala Tahan town around 2.00 in the afternoon. The early half of our journey from KL was through heavy rain, but it was a shiny noon when we reached our destination.

 Deep at the end of the Sg. Baru Dam at Bukit Cahaya Agricultural Park is a modest and humble looking, yet challenging nature trail that actually do draws you into the wilderness experience despite the fact that all around the park parameters is modern township and residential areas. Whilst in there, it's hard not to believe that you are still just a stone throw away from the cosmopolitan city of Shah Alam in the state of Selangor.

 Take the highway to the east coast direction and after entering the
Karak Highway, exit at the Lancang Tol Plaza. Turn right after the
first T-junction, and drive towards Kg. Bolok. The Elephant
Conservation Center is about 20 minutes drive away at Kuala Gandah, in
the state of Pahang.

 The morning journey from KL took off with a convoy of five cars on a long trip to a fruit orchard at the 8th mile from Behrang, located east of the Tanjung Malim town. It took about an hour drive northbound up the federal highway, which can either be reached from south through the Tanjung Malim exit or from the north via the Behrang Tol Plaza exit .

peat swamp forest with a series of inland lakes of what remains of an
unused tin dredging area, very active during the time when the state of

 Squeezed between the backyard of the residential area of TTDI-(Taman Tun Dr Ismail) housing estate and the Bukit Kiara Golf and Equestrian Club ground in the Federal Territory, there still survived intact a stretch of green lung of secondary jungle that is well maintained by the city council. But for how much longer before development takes over, that remains everyone guess.

The park, situated at the Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam in Shah Alam is only 30 minutes drive from the capital city Kuala Lumpur.
Initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and its agencies in 1986, its naturally growing trees and landscape provides remarkable nature trail amongst evergreens, plants and flowers and along the way the opportunity to come across squirrels, birds and various insects.
